Weekends well spent with Privilee

I have tried and tested many of the amazing discount books, club apps and fitness memberships here in the UAE, but from food to fitness and festivities, there’s none that really wrap all of the city’s offerings into one, quite like Privilee does.

Privilee is our local club card that gives back without the points system. Whether you’re just over here on holiday, a true blue expat or you’ve expanded your brood recently and aren’t sure where’s kid friendly, Privilee has a four different membership plans, running between 1, 4 and 12 months, for the ultimate flexibility. Offering a card free digital booking system, making the whole concept more sustainable too, your whole weekend is literally a click away.

Partnering with a wide array of partners across the city and the capital too, boredom just isn’t an option. It’s not just the picturesque white sands of Dubai’s infamous luxury hotels that are on offer either, it’s that gym you’ve always wanted to try but didn’t want to commit to, or the busy hotspots around the city that now take 25% off your bill with pleasure.

If you’ve ever sat at home on a Friday morning, wondering what to do with your weekend, a daycay at the beach followed by a workout in the sun and sundowners on the Palm doesn’t sound too bad, especially when you know you can just walk in…

A Wellness Weekend at EDITION Abu Dhabi

It’s not often we venture out of our highly captivating city, but in my view, the capitol has some of the most underrated hotels out there! For example, a wellness weekend away to Abu Dhabi with celeb chef Tom Aikens is my idea of a holiday. The brand new EDITION is a beautiful new addition to the city and brings with it a wealth of destination dining hotspots.

Positioned in the downtown district on the waterfront of Al Bateen Marina, it’s truly my new home away from home. A couple of beautiful gyms, spa and restaurants surround a three-story social space that has literally everything under one roof! We arrived to join Michelin-starred Chef Tom Aikens at Market, his all day dining concept which focuses on imaginative, no waste, healthy lifestyle options in an open kitchen setting.

After a well-rested start to the weekend, we ventured out to the Eastern mangroves with Seahawk to kayak around on their crystal clear waters and get some vitamin sea. A new favorite of mine, the mangroves are a beautiful eco hotspot just teeming with life.

Heading back for the evening, we sampled the modern menu of Oak Room, which celebrates world-class ingredients with ‘British rock ‘n’ roll flair’. All whilst either seated or standing in their very communal setting. Paired with exclusive French wines from MMI, the tasting menu offered a selection of everything from a carvery to a la carte options too.

Not wanting the evening to end, the rooftop of The Annex is the place to be, with it’s perfectly positioned sunset views and fire pits for the chillier nights too, it’s a favorite for residents and guests alike.

Waking up with the sunrise was how we greeted our last day at the resort, enjoying not only the warm welcome from the rooftop of the residences, but the spirited yoga session and sound healing with Eastern Vibrations. The EDITION is really a dream staycation that feels more like a vacation.

Gold on the Ceiling: Emirates Palace

It’s now considered an old establishment. Something from Arabia’s days gone past, where a night here was worth your weight in gold… literally. 5-star in all senses, with almost 400 rooms available, we found out why Emirates Palace hotel is still the pinnacle of Abu Dhabi’s luxury offerings. Emirates Palace

What else do you do when you land in a luxury resort such as this one in the capital, just a stone’s throw from home, yet it feels so very far away. If you’re at all like me, you take a tour of the grounds and get to know the lay of the land, especially if you’re on the hunt for some well-lit photo opportunities. Emirates Palace

There are some seriously instagrammed dancing fountains on your arrival and a 75m-mosaicked ceiling that will test your selfie stick to the limits. Head through the reception into the foyer to experience the world’s most expensive cappuccino (not including the 54AED cuppa joe in the restaurant mind)– but one that’s dusted in 24carat gold, in the only spot where cameras are a no-go. Emirates Palace

The halls are as you’d expect in something so grandeur, warmly lit but shrouded in marble, concrete and corridors, there’s no windows to guide you as you make your way through their maze of rooms and restaurants. It’s a 1km walk from wing to wing, but if you choose to cycle around it, you can get in a lovely 6km ride. Emirates Palace

The rooms are something else though, spectacular setup’s with beach views and enormous terraces that add an opulent extension onto your already spacious suite. On arrival, a bespoke travel cake creation and macaroons awaited us, adding a lovely little personalized touch to the already warm welcome. Emirates Palace

Sayad restaurant was our dinner destination of choice for the first evening, featuring a beautiful 7 or 10-course seafood menu, created exclusively by their visiting Michelin starred chef. With Thai influences and Scandinavian designs, the food varied from frozen curried canapés to disappearing green candy floss accompaniments. For our last night, we chose to sit on the beach and enjoy a plethora of freshly grilled seafood and potted salads, something that was much more to my taste and dress code. Emirates Palace

There’s a serious family-friendly vibe to the hotel, and yet its silent corridors and beaches make you feel comfortably alone. Yes it’s got camels on the beach and a mini Wild Wadi by the pool, but it’s also got a serious marina with some serious boats in it, including a Philip Stark designed pseudo-submarine called ‘A’ (parked here by a visiting Russian guest apparently – what a way to arrive!) Emirates Palace

Tips for staying at Emirates Palace:

– Get up early and go for a run around the grounds
– Count the different types of birds (seriously this is an ornithologists paradise)
– Check out which chef is visiting and book a table
