Eco-Conscious Activewear from H&M

Blending fashion with function and fitness, H&M has announced that its latest activewear collection is made from totally eco-friendly, sustainable materials. Now we know H&M are great when it comes to encouraging conscious consumerism with their sought-after conscious collection, it’s great to see it transpire across more of the clothing in-store. “Inspired by nature and positive, strong women” the collection revolves around the theme of ‘In it for the long run’ …as we all want our most-washed items to last.

The collection includes; tights, sports bras, hoodies and tops for training, running and yoga. With a precedence on nature and sustainability, the prints and the colours feature Earthy greens, blacks and beiges. So where’s the Eco element? The clothes are made with recycled polyester and elastane and for an added bonus, are made for our quick gym-tan-laundry turnaround too, with quick-dry and seamless finishings.

“By bringing together the functional and feminine, the aim is to give customers a stylish, conscious sports collection. And not just through the fabrics – we utilized a new knitting technique that creates seamless garments while using less yarn or fabric waste. Blending function with sustainable thinking and fashion in this way is the way forward,” says Petra Smeds, head designer of sportswear.

H&M: Holding Fast Fashion Accountable

I love it when great minds come together and the team at one of the most famous high street brands in the world, H&M, are certainly on the right track. It is estimated that more than 1 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away every year, most of which ends up in landfill sites. So sustainable textiles have to be the future. H&M Conscious Collection

Launching their latest CONSCIOUS EXCLUSIVE collection, H&M are without a doubt pushing forward in this industry, with 20% of their pieces now made from more sustainable materials, with the aim each year to increase this share. One of their key elements in this is BIONIC; a recycled polyester made from plastic shoreline waste. H&M notes that they are one of the world’s biggest users of recycled polyester and one of the biggest buyers of organic cotton. Their goal is ultimately to have their cotton 100% sustainably sourced by 2020. H&M Conscious Exclusive

This year, supermodel and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova starred in their campaign too, so don’t think that the pieces are in any way lacking style, just because they use a different material…

6 Swimsuits We’re Coveting This Summer

Summer means swimwear! Everyone right now seems to be in Greece/Spain or the South of Italy soaking up the (normal) sunshine, but even though it’s actually too hot to go outside in Dubai, i’m still scouring the shops for one pieces to wear round the pools as I test out my Privilee card!

Shopping online is a lot easier for me, but I’m not your average body shape – smaller ribs, wider hips and a bum that my mum isn’t even sure where it came from, means two things – I have to work harder to keep it all together AND I do not suit these high riding bikini bottom styles that are everywhere right now… nor for that matter do I look particularly symmetrical in the harry high-pants either.

Swimsuits are my ultimate piece of summer apparel. When I go shopping, their stylish simplicity means I’m not fighting the crowds looking for two different sized pieces that match! Also, with the bodysuit making a resurgence this season, I’m perfectly on trend pairing my one piece with a pair of high waisted shorts too.

Here’s my current covets from some of my favourite brands:

Why We’re Going Barmy for Balmain’s Fashion Army

H&M is known for bridging the gap between affordable and luxury fashion, and its latest collab has everybody talking. This Autumn, as you’re all aware, it launches its latest foray into the world of couture, teaming up with the Parisian house of Balmain. Founded in 1945, Balmain has been making more international waves of late under the enigmatic and exciting young Olivier Rousteing, who proclaims to design for a younger, much more trendy audience, than fellow fashion houses.

Rousteing’s collaboration with H&M is furthering their global appeal online by creating the #HMBALMANATION community. And anyone who’s anyone wants to be part of it. From famous friends like Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn starring in the campaign, to rocking the looks on the Billboard Music Awards red carpet, this digitally led fashion army is gaining momentum. The collection itself has impressed us. Not stealing away from its signature rope decals, pearl and gilded designs, Rousteing has made sure that he keeps the H&M collection completely true to Balmain’s heritage. I want to talk to my generation: this is my main aim as a designer. H&M allows me the unique possibility of bringing everyone into the world of Balmain, getting a piece of the dream and creating a global #HMBalmaination: a movement of togetherness, fuelled on a hashtag. The collaboration felt extremely natural to me: H&M is a brand that everybody connects to. It calls for unity, and I am all for it, says Olivier Rousteing

Available from November 5, in around 250 stores worldwide, The Dubai Mall is your go-to H&M outlet in Dubai for this exclusive range!

I’m not the most trend conscious person in the world, but I love picking up little classic staple pieces that can be dressed up or down. I’ve found that some of my best purchases recently have come from H&M. With their dedicated Conscious Collection killing it in stores (sold out in a day), I’m learning to look past the main mannequins.
